Philippe Djian „Betty Blue”

Dijan Philippe; Betty Blue;
A marriage of water and fire – the perfect combination to make everything go up in smoke.

Dijan Philippe; Betty Blue;
The fact: a girl can take your world and turn it inside out – can shake you up.

 Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
“Lord, don’t you understand anything? Don’t you see that with one hand you're pulling my head out of water and with the other you're dunking me again?”
I was going to tell her that it was a good metaphor for life in general but I didn’t.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Alcohol is not the answer any more than anything else, but it does let you catch your breath – avoid blowing your fuses. It’s life that makes you crazy, not booze.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Betty’s chasing after something that doesn’t exist. She’s like a wounded animal, you know? She gets a little weaker all the time. I think the world’s too small for her. That’s where all her problems start.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Life is full of small nothings that warm your heart. You can’t ask for the moon.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Make Betty understand that happiness doesn’t exist, that paradise doesn’t exist, that there’s nothing to win or lose, and that essentially you can’t change anything. And that if you think despair is all that’s left after that, well, you’re wrong again, because despair is an illusion, too. All you can do is go to bed at night and get up in the morning, with a smile on your lips, if possible. And you can think whatever you want – it only complicates matters and doesn’t change a thing.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Money is one of those things that never keep a promise.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Nothing came out at all – but nothing – so every night the big writer went down for the count. He had lost his muse’s phone number, the poor jerk; he’d even lost his desire to call, and he didn’t even know why.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
O my pooor generation - born of nothing, knowing neither effort nor revolt, eating itself alive, no way out...

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
Still, when I looked behind the faces of those around me, all I saw was insanity, unrest, and anguish; or suffering, fear, and loneliness; or boredom, or solitude, or rage and impotence – shit, what was there to be happy about?

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
The most charming thing about this generation is its experience of solitude, and the deep uselessness of all things.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
There comes a moment when the silence between two people can have purity of a diamond.

Djian Philippe; Betty Blue;
You have to recognize that no matter how you look at it, we take turns here on earth: you take the day with the night; the joy with the sorrow, shake it up, and pour yourself a big glass of it every morning. Thus you become a man – nice to have you abroad, son... watch and see how incomparable and sad is the beauty of life.
